Being an oily skin type and finding a moisturizer that doesn’t break you out and doesn’t feel oily is a wish come true. If you are not oily skin, you don’t know it, okay. After going through a bunch of different moisturisers and breaking my skin out thousands of times, today I’m gonna give you the magic potion for your skin and I bet that your skins’ gonna thank me later! With all my heart, I absolutely love this PONDS SUPER LIGHT GEL oil-free Moisturizer, infused with Hyaluronic acid and vitamin E. I have seriously never loved a moisturizer this much before.
Also, it is a very similar dupe for clinique’s moisture surge and Neutrogena hydro boost, but obviously with less good ingredients than them. So let’s see what hold in Ponds Superlight gel review.
What the product claims to be?
- 24-hour hydration
- Lightweight formula
- For all skin types
- Non-oily + Non-sticky formula
- Absorbs faster than a cream
- Go to moisturizer for all seasons
- Infused with hyaluronic acid, Vitamin E and glycerine
- Helps restore the moisture balance
- Spreads easily on the skin
What claims are actually true?
The very first claims seem not to be true as it surely doesn’t give hydration for 24 hours but lasts up to 3-4 hours approximately on my oily skin.
The next few claims have proven to be true because it indeed feels super light on the skin and is an oil-free water-based formula and doesn’t feel sticky even after 2-3 layers. Moreover, it seeps into the skin really quickly and doesn’t leave any white residue on the skin itself, making it absorb faster than a normal cream. Since it is oil-free it doesn’t break out oily skin for any skin type for that matter, which is a major plus.
Even though Ponds super light gel holds best for not causing acne, It may not be enough for dry skin people. Since they have heavy moisture requirements, and this may not be able to fulfil that.

Superstar ingredients in Ponds super light gel you need to know
- Glycerin: skin-identical ingredient, humectant
- Niacinamide: Skin brightening, Anti-acne, humectant
- Sodium PCA: skin-identical, humectant
- Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid: Humectant
What is Humectant? A humectant is a common moisturizing agent found in beauty products. They have this ability to retain moisture in your skin while also preserving the overall properties of the product in use. How does it work? Basically, humectants are magnets that attract water. They pull moisture from the air into the upper layer of your skin.
Price and packaging
Being surprisingly inexpensive, It comes in two quantities:
- ₹149/$1.97 for 73gms
- ₹299/$3.96 for 143gms of product
I got mine from Amazon on discount which made it even more cheaper. So yayy!
I suggest you to buy the smaller version first to see if this suits or not. You don’t wanna buy something useless, right?
As per packaging, it comes in an aqua blue plastic tub with a silver foil on it which you have to peel off once you start using it.
Pro tip: I advise not to throw the foil away as all the product would then start to settle in the lid of the tub which may not be very pleasing or travel-friendly.
This Ponds super light gel has this typical Ponds fragrance to it. It has a strong lily and aloe vera fragrance which fortunately does not stay stay after you have applied it your skin. But fragrance of any kind may feel icky and irritate your skin if you have sensitive skin.
I love the soft gel type water-based texture of it. It’s not watery and not properly gel. Surely Somewhere in between. It absorbs into my oily skin very quickly and doesn’t feel heavy, sticky, greasy or oily at all. AT ALL!
How to apply it?
Very easy to use, You have to take half finger quantity of Ponds super light gel and apply it onto your face when you have cleaned it thoroughly.
Pro tip: Apply it on a damp face and massage it in. What this will do is, it will make your skin hydrated for a longer time since ponds gel has humectants in it, it will lock the moisturisation within the skin.
My final thoughts
If you go by what I feel, then Ponds super light gel is an absolute must-have for all the oily skins out there because who has enough moisturisation in the world anyhow? Also, I don’t think to spend 5 times more money on 2 times less product quantity (talking about Neutrogena hydro boost- INR 850 for 50gms) is even worth spending when literally they work the same.
It one of the best affordable options for broke people or who are contemplating to even buy a moisturiser for their skin type. You can wear it to work, college, in summer, during winter literally everywhere. YOU GOT MY POINT, right?

Is Ponds super light gel good for oily skin?
Absolutely! What makes it best for oily skin types is that it is non-comedogenic; does not clog your pores at all therefore, cannot cause any acne. Moreover, it is non-sticky oil-free water based moisturiser and is super light in your skin.
Is Ponds super light gel non-comedogenic?
Yes it is! This means it does not clog your pores to initiate breakouts on your skin. Thus, works best for oily, combination, and acne-prone skin types.
Is ponds super light gel a dupe of Neutrogena hydro boost or clinique moisturiser surge?
Yes yes, it is. It is a very similar dupe of Neutrogena hydro boost which cost for ₹850 for just 50gms of product and clinique moisturiser surge which is a high-end luxury brand. Although there are more beneficial ingredients in Neutrogena and clinique moisturiser since you pay higher for them, I believe most of the ingredients are exactly the same.
Is ponds super light gel paraben-free?
Yes, ponds super light gel is absolutely paraben free so don’t worry, it’s not going to hurt you.
Does ponds super light gel has fragrance?
Unfortunately, Yes it does have fragrance which may not be advised to use for sensitive skin types. It can irritate your skin if used.
Do ponds super light gel provide hydration for 24-hours?
As per my experience, No, this moisturizer does not provide enough moisturization. I found that it gives hydration and glow just for 3-4 hours and then all of that vanishes or stops.
Is Ponds a cruelty-free brand?
Sadly, no it’s not cruelty-free as per the day this review is written. They test their products/ingredients on animals. So they only sell their products only in the countries where animal testing is not banned by their law.
Is ponds super light gel moisturizer good?
Yes Ponds moisturizer holds good for almost all skin types but may not be enough for dry skin types as it is a lightweight formula and dry skin people generally need something heavy.
